  • Missionary Travelers Report - vol.2

    Hello Dear Friends,

Life is great in the foreign mission field. I tell everyone, "There's no greater work, than that of helping someone in need".

It appears that everything in this world is geared towards pleasing ones self; And people have never been more unhappy than they are today. If you're unhappy, lonely, depressed, or even sick, .... I have a tip for you; Try going out and doing something good for someone else, ... expecting nothing in return. I can assure you that you will begin feeling much better. It's actually a law of nature; You cannot give of yourself for the sake of someone else, without you being doubly blessed. Try it, ... you'll be glad you did.

This may be the last posting I will make for a couple of weeks. I am returning to the mountains to continue the work I love; But, thought you'd like an update before I go.

This past holiday season, Maranatha Medical Ministries decided to search out those whom we call, "the poorest of the poor", and give them gift baskets.

            MMT-2   MMT-3

It truely was a wonderful experience. we even found one family, (a widow of 4), who is very poor. She didn't even have clothes to put on her children. Of course, we had a great time dressing the kids, teaching them how to brush their teeth, and giving them healthy foods to eat.

         MMT-4     MMT-1

This is how to spend the holiday season

Just the other day, a fellow brought his 5 year old neice to us who had been hit in the head with a rock.

     MMT-5 MMT-6

It was a deep wound needing sutures. You guessed it, .... our volunteers jumped right into action. None of them had sutured before, but fortunately they had received training just that morning.

     MMT-7 MMT-8

I tell all of my volunteers, "first you watch me, ... then, I watch you". Hands-on training; That's the best way to learn I always say.

So, after personally putting three sutures, I turned things over to the medical trainees, Estephan, Alexandra, and Levi. Though a bit nervous, they did a great job.

    MMT-9  MMT-10

I was especially amazed at how calm the little girl was. She didn't cry at all. She just kept looking up at all of us with those big brown eyes as if saying, "OK, ... I trust you people".

She was such a special patient, I just had to give her one of my favorite stuffed animals, Mr. Circus Elephant

You know friends, ... every day, God gives each one of us opportunities to help someone else. No, you don't have to perform surgery; But just sending a caring note to someone; or giving them an encouraging phone call. Sometimes, all a person needs is a smile from you.

Thanks for the pictures. We really enjoy those. Hope that the litttle girl is all better. We just went to a weekend of meetings on  missions and reaching out to others. It was such a  blessing and it is so true that if you reach out to others in Jesus name, we ourselves are very blessed and happy. May God bless you all, We are praying for all of you there.
